Matt, is it possible for the moderators to incorporate automatic correction to posts so that we never see people typing "peddle" or "peddling" instead of "pedal" or "pedaling"? As the Mirage kayaks ALL involve pedals it seems to me important that Hobie does what it can to remove these eyesores, as I suspect the continued appearance of the wrong spelling itself perpetuates the problem. Maybe I should just shut up... |

The problem with doing such a thing is that it creates an inability for some of us to peddle our goods to the pedalling public. Seriously. It's difficult to make a spell check that understands context. Secondly, I'm sure it's expensive to add a spell check to a system like this. Third, there are options. My mac has universal spell check. Anywhere that I write, if I make a spelling error, it will pick it up. I'm not sure if PC's have the same feature, but I'm sure that many modern computers have this option. Systems like this forum, kind of are what they are. It's best that people try to avoid making those errors, and that those who read the errors try to look past them. To be fair, this forum is much better than some. People still use proper english words. I've read some forums, and "U got no ID wut they sayin" |

And, then, there are people like me that misspell things and don't even realize it. Fortunately, most can just look past these minor problems. Keith |

Happy to live with sloppy use of language, it is just the "pedal" thing which gets up my nose. As for losing the ability to use "peddle", the word "market" seems close enough... ![]() |

In fact I have created software that does the opposite. My spelling is absolutly flawles but to save me looking like a smart arse know-it-all, the software selects random words and purposly mispells them to make me look, in your eyes, a bit more normal. ![]() ![]() |

I was going to make an educational system statement, but PassWind seems to have covered that base. This image may help my case. It's not easy being from one of the top English speaking countries in the world! People have expectations! ![]() ![]() |

Ok... so anyone from a country above you on the (Reading) list has to spell it correctly. Anyone from a country below you... well... feel free to take on their education system. ![]() (P.S. I'm SURE that I've misspelled the word numerous times on this forum, but I'll try now... just for you tonystott... just for you!) |

Bonehead, I deliberately chose to start z new thread to avoid "pointing the finger" regarding this issue. Sorry if you thought I was thinking of anything you had written. It's all good mate ![]() |

As a brand new lurking member, I've been using the forum search to help make informed purchasing decisions and absorb watercraft. This thread made me realize some crucial tidbit about pedals or peddles, paddles or paddels etc. might be missed with a literal search. Tried a wildcard search for the first time (ped*)... lo and behold, there's a bunch more learnin' to be had! It's all good. Thanks for sharing your experiences so us newbies gain (with a pinch of salt) valuable infromation ![]() |

Just follow the lead from us blokes down here Thomas. Our command of the English language is astonishing. ![]() ( truth be known, I work with an Indian mate who is constantly being use as my automatic Dictionary ) Personally, I reckon the English language is gradually being changed for the better. Bring on phonetics. ( now there is a good topic to bring up at the next campfire ) |
