Congrats on your new AI. I'm originally from CT and usually visit each year in late summer. Who'd you buy it from, Collinsville Canoe? Please post some of your adventures here, as it's good to hear from people sailing around my old home area. |

I will be full of questions once I get her on the water.. I'v never been sailing before.... I've been doing lots of reading about it... seems simple enough with just the main sail ... but I sure the first couple times will be a lot of mistakes and learning! first question .. we do a lot of night fishing here for stripers... anyone mount a light on top of the mast ? |

Some have mounted a white light on the top of their mast. Others have done the red, green and white, but you could be mistaken for a powerboat and expected to move quickly out of the way. I just keep a bright white (and a spare) available to shine if any other boats come near. With enough of a moon, or if you have a fish-finder on dim, it's pretty easy to see each other kayak fishing even when sailing/trolling (at least here). |

I recently added a masthead light so I could sail at night and wanted to share the results. ![]() ![]() ![]() I very carefully drilled and threaded a hole in the masthead. Cut the head off a bolt so I had a SS threaded rod, double nutted to prevent the rod from backing out, and screwed on the light. It's an LED version of the standard battery powered light available at marine supply stores. I can't turn it on or off without unstepping the mast so if I might be out late I turn it on before heading out. There's also a short tether if something goes wrong. Cheers, J |

perfect !!! thats the SAME white light I use today on the paddle kayak ... yep, batteries last a long time I'll just leave it on all the time. I'll do the same , one on top of the mast and possibly one closer to me mounted on a rod holder (as a do today) ps... not going to touch the AI with a drill until after a few trips ... until I get a better feel of it !! ![]() |
