Hi all, i am planning to buy a TI next spring. I live in Quebec Canada. Is there anything i should be aware before buying, like best price, best accessories to buy with the TI, etc. Thanks for your help. Richard |

Hi Richard, Sorry for the delay, I was waiting for someone who lives closer to you to pipe up! anyway, while it is difficult to know just how you will be using your TI, I will make a few guesses/assumptions. In order to limit the impact on weather reducing your sailing days, I wold recommend hat you spring for drysuits. This will increase the number of days where the weather is good for taking the TI out. Depending on your plans regarding venturing far from shore, please don't skimp on safety gear Good lifejackets (I use a manually inflated 150N "horseshoe" at all times) anchor sea anchor at least 25 yards of anchor line Waterproof torch VHF handheld radio (ideally with GPS) red & smoke flares (2 of each) compass first aid kit Spare rudder pins Spray skirts (http://www.kayakingbob.com) Leashes for everything< No doubt I have forgotten lots, and I personally also carry: a personal locator beacon (PLB) with inbuilt GPS Lowrance Elite 4DSI fishfinder/chartplotter with charts on microSD Bilge pump Removable masthead light Removable masthead wind indicator (well worthwhile knowing actually where the wind is coming from!) There are many other items which can be useful. I am not trying to put you off, but the idea is to able to fend for yourself while away from shore. The list required if you are just going to be tooling around a small lake would be a lot less. Food for thought anyway... |

Hi Tony, thanks for your answer, I forgot to mention on my post that i have been sailing 10 years on a Hobie Cat 18' from 1987 to 1997. Here in my hometown of Montmagny, we sail on the St Lawrence river which is about 8 miles wide with 20 feet tides. Swell size can be usually between nothing to 6 feet . Thanks for all the safety reminders, Do you know if the 2013 version of the TI will have improvements from 2012 version ? Thanks for your help. Looks like a nice place to sail! Unfortunately, I haven't heard any news about 2013 model changes, which suggests that nothing major is coming. Could be hopelessly wrong though! |

I've been told no changes for 2013 except a small price increase. I wouldn't be surprise if some little minor improvements come through during the year. Side handle splash guards for one. |
