I've found this to be a big help when attempting to back a low, narrow kayak trailer down a boat ramp:

Tom,

I have something similar on my trailer. I use a pair of fiberglass rods that point up. Made from driveway markers. They are mounted on a sliding square stock tubes and can be rotated down when launching the boat with amas extended. The difference is that I can see the position of my trailer when I am towing the trailer without the boat.

Same with mine - I can see the trailer with the boat on or off of it as long as the whisker is in the out position.

The driveway markers are a good idea - one less thing to make.

Hmmmmmm, this might be a good solution to a problem with my hatchback car. I have been lowering my backseat and raising the hatch window so I could see the boat/trailer. Maybe I could mount a pole in the mast receiver and put 2 vertical lines on my rear window. While backing down, keep the pole between the 2 lines! Would have to rig a place to stick the pole on the trailer when the boat isn't there, but that should not be too hard.

Better to use the rudder area rather than the mast receiver, as you will get far earlier indications when the trailer is running out of line during reversing. I just open the tailgate on my wagon.
