I'm just about to buy an Adventure Island. The dealer says taking a second person on it is no problem, but I'm concerned with how it will affect performance. Also, how close to the wind can I sail and how close to wind speed can I get under sail power only? Finally, based upon sail area, I assume the TI is significantly faster than the AI, but how big a difference is it, really? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

If you want a 2 man crew you need to buy the Tandem Island instead. |

The TI is about 1mph faster than the AI in the majority of conditions and directions sailing. The TI will sail about 35 degrees into the wind but slowly. The AI about 45 degrees. The TI will comfortably hold +600 pounds, but also weighs about 200 pounds empty, heavy on land! Should be trailered. The AI tops out at carrying 350 pounds, but is only about 125 pounds, so much easier to handle on land. Careful one-man loading/unloading on a vehicle works. Both are great boats, but each has it's own strengths. Good luck. |

More passenger weight has both pros and cons. Getting an extra body to hike out on the gunwale or tramp helps keep the boat flatter and keeps speed up. But more weight, is well, more weight, which slows you down a bit. If you have any inclination that carrying a passenger is going to be more than just an occasional thing, get the TI. |

With 2 up, the AI will be dog slow and harder to tack. Easier to flood too. The TI only gets better, when you add another person, and they hike out. |

Hey guys, thanks for the info. I demoed a TI a couple of days ago, and I'll be demo'ing an AI on Friday. The second will be my girlfriend, and she rode with me on the TI, and will be with me on the AI also, so I'll get a good idea of the differences. I'll let you know how it goes, and maybe I'll see you on the Gulf! (I'll be the one with the big smile on my face ...) ![]() Brother Dan SPB, FL |
