Went for an evening sail on Canyon Lake, TX last night with 13 MPH wind. The mast snapped near the base with a loud crack and the sail fell over the downwind ama. Conditions with wind and waves were less than I have sailed previously and I was very surprised when it broke. After a 'healthy' pedal managed to get back to launch point and load up; really very happy this didn’t happen on the way to the rigs in the Gulf! The break occurred 2 inches into the base tube, probably level with the white rollers; the outer tube also cracked. |

Images need to be on a public server to be seen by others. The image linked is on a home computer it appears. File a warranty claim through your dealer to get factory feedback on a potential cause or any coverage. May not have been seated in the hull properly or damaged by a previous sail / capsize... hard to say, but failures are rare I believe. |

Thanks Matt: I left the mast with ACK San Marcos yesterday so I am sure you will hear from them. No previous capsize but we have sailed in some stiff wind a few times this year; I am confident the mast was seated correctly and locked because after the failure I had to unlock the mast 'lever' to remove and roll up the sail. It will be interesting to hear you conclusion. |
