Hi guys, I'm finally planning on installing the rudder upgrade on my A.I. (after having it sitting in the box for 4 months!). I'd like to use the existing rudder lines and tubes, to make it a neater install (in particular keeping the rear hatch opening clear of cables). I'm going to unscrew the front pulleys for the up and down lines, in order to give me a little more to play with when fitting the lines to the rudder. Are there any issues/problems/traps I should be aware of when performing the install? I'd be keen to hear from any others who've performed the upgrade using the existing rudder lines. Cheers, Mike. |

I upgraded my AI when the new rudder first came out. To keep the hatch clear I used a combination of new and old lines. I kept some of the old tubes because they are longer. Hardest part is to tie the knots under the deck. Hobie uses a special knot to attach the lines. One end of the line is a loop. This loop is folded over to form a double loop. The other line has a figure eight knot. This knot gets slipped through the double loop and tightened. I remember there was something about the port side of the hatch. I had to make up the line aft of the hatch so I cut a short tube as a slide around the hatch. Stays in place with some electrical tape... |
