Sailing my TI over easter down at Bendalong NSW - lovely weather. Went out solo a couple of times, 2nd time realised my Mirage drives in front seat didn't feel right. Found a cable had slipped off the wheel at the front - worse - I couldn't take them out - turned out the steel horizontal bar had crept forward out of the plastic sleave and caused it to jam inside the well. Also another pin at the top had moved out of it's sleave too. an Hour of messing about later, managed to wrench it out of the well, push everything back in place, re-seated the cable on the wheel etc. went out again - same thing happened. Something busted in my drives. Anyone had this ? easy fix ? My nearest Hobie dealer in Mona Vale (Sydney) closed down months ago. No dealers left in Sydney AFAIK. This is when you need a local dealer. |

I feel your pain... I usually check all the locknuts on the cables, as the cables do stretch with use, especially if you are a big bloke/have cyclist thighs. I have had the horizontal shaft slip too, but was able to stop it by tightening up the grub screw. Thanks. I thought you were joking about Penrith. Is that really the nearest store in Australia's most populous city ? What on earth is going on with Hobie in Australia ? |

It is a sad fact of life. The Pedal, Paddle Sail group, which used to have about three dealerships, closed down, and it has taken some time for Hobie Australasia to help organise replacements. I heard a rumour that there is a dealer opening in Hornsby, but I don't know. The last dealer was in Mona Vale, whicjh is probably just as far out of the CBD as Penrith... |

I'm pretty sure I passed a 'pedal paddle sail' in Nowra, on the way to Bendalong at Easter, however there were no signs indicating Hobie products. Mona Vale was a logical place for a Hobie dealership, being on Pittwater. I take my TI out on Pittwater quite often, however I don't think I've seen a single privately owned AI or TI on Pittwater in the 2 years I've had it. That's always struck me as strange. It's quite enclosed, lots of nice beaches to stop at etc. Hornsby sounds just as bizarre a location as Penrith to me, however since it would be down the road from my house I'm not complaining. |

It is not too far to Bobbin Head from Hornsby. I have very fond memories of Pittwater/Hawkesbury, as I organised no less than 33 weekend charters ofmonohulls up to 42 feet, and Seawind 1000s (my only prior experience of multihulls until I got my TI). I used to get immense satisfaction from sailing past most of the racing yachts while about ten of us partied hard with stereo up and glasses full on the Seawind!

For the record the last person I spoke to at the dealership in Mona Vale told me I wouldn't need to get my Mirage drives serviced because they don't need servicing. Hardly surprising they went out of business really |
