Anyone understand the significance of the different icons that you see in front of each topic on this forum? There are gold and there are white icons. There are static and there are blinking icons. Then there are icons with black dots. Make my head hurt. What's up with all this? :?

They tell you something about each message "at a glance" - IF you can figure out just what they mean! I found a phpBB discussion thread that supposedly explained what each was, but (as happens so often here) it was a long time ago and the images are all missing...

What I do know:

The gold ones mean someone has posted to that thread since you last read it.

White means you've already see everything in it. (Usually...)

If there's a black dot at one corner it means you've posted to it.

I *think* the "wiggling" icons just mean it's a popular thread - the discussion I found said "more than 20 posts" (in a certain amount of time?) get it. (But - again - I couldn't see their icon images to be sure.)

On my machines, the Subject text is dimmed after I have read it.
I know, I know, that's not an icon but maybe adds to our expertise
Hadn't noticed the black dot before (more ageing problems) so thanks Joe.

There is a guide to the icons at the bottom of each forum topics page:

These are active if you are logged in to your user account.

Thanks Mat.
We should read the screens I know, then we would have known that we can edit submitted posts.
The sailing with pets has the oversized picture now removed.
Age thing again probably.

An interesting video of your new years eve.
We had one of those crowded watching fireworks through alcohol clouded eyes instead :?
