Hi Matt, just inquiring to see if the akas on the new AI have changed in diameter from the older models. I'm starting to order some bits and pieces in anticipation of the new boat arrival. Cheers, Bob. |

I'll take it they're the same diameter as the older models then. |

They do seem larger to me, but I don't have mine yet to measure. |

Thanks for the reply Bob, I may hold off on the Railblazer 32mm -41mm rail mounts for the rod holders until conformation can be made on the aka diameters. The bullhorn holders are not going to be an easy fit on this model. At least I'll be able to get the trolley in the scuppers on this one. Regards, Bob. |

I just measured mine and it's 40.1 for the aka, and 50.1 or 2" for the cross bar. |

Oops, my mistake, I read ama. The aka seem to be the same diameter, maybe slightly longer. The ama is what seem larger. |

Bob, take a look at the RAM Tough Claws. As much as I like Railblaza gear, I think these are a better option than Railblaza mounts for AI akas/Xbars at this point. Much easier to install, remove, re-position and a greater range of rods available for them to. ![]() http://slhobie.com.au/gear/mounts/432-ram-tough-claw-rail-mounts Also, check out these new rod holders from RAM. This is what I'll be fitting to my new AI ![]() http://slhobie.com.au/gear/kayak-fishing-accessories/510-ram-revolution-tube-jnr-rod-holder |

Thanks Matt. Josh on my first AI I had a RAM system like Ramming Speed and all it did was slip, admittedly, it worked ok for a while until wear on the socket ball made it slip even easier. I'm a bit gun shy of Ram gear except the Tallon mounts for the Lowrance fish finder, that one is brilliant. I'm going for the Blazer stuff as I know that won't slip, plus, I just put the order in. I'll be watching for your review on the RAM system, that aka collar is a great idea for the base, much easier for moving I agree. Thanks anyway mate. P.S Have a GREAT DAY on Monday! Cheers, Bob. |

Well, I've seen the Railblaza one slip under the weight of a 600 camera boom (in sloppy, bumpy conditions though), so a good solid fish will be worse. Watched some mack tuna pull over a Railblaza rail mount at Fraser as well, which was no big surprise. RAM balls may slip on the ball socket (there's ways to address that), but the tough claw itself is pretty solid. Either way, I'm real keen on that new RAM Revo Jnr tube, so for me its more about the rod holder than the mount itself. I like the Railblaza rod holder to, but the simplicity of this new RAM one does it for me |

How do you solve the slipping of the ball socket? That's what moved me over to the railblaza and some custom Scotty stuff, could figure out how to keep them from slipping |

Aloha guys.. I see this has become kind of a rod holder topic now.. mind if I jump in.. I have seen the rail blazza and they look pretty good and like they are less likely to slip.. for me the ram balls don't cut it on big strikes.. the slip to much I am working with a company in America called Yack Attack.... www.yakattack.us they are working real hard right now for some solutions to rod holders on AI bars.. I should get some new gear here to try soon and will try to get the info back out to you.. but check out there web site.. cool folks over there... this year will be going with rod holders mounted to the aka bars as my old pvc ones don't fit the new 2015 AI's |

I am very tired of the Railblaza system jamming so that accessories can't be removed easily. Am I the ONLY person that has that problem? I've had to trim the ratchet bases to get them in and out with only mild difficulty. And, then, I have to watch that I put the trimmed sections in properly. Keith |

Yes it is a pity that the PVC "Bullhorn" rod holders won't fit to the new AI, for mine, they were brilliant for trolling. All my blazer stuff arrived the week after order and is assembled ready for install sitting in a cardboard box on the trailer. I just wish I had something to put it on. No Chekika, never had that problem, but, I've only used the starports for the 150 and 600mm booms for the go pros. Perhaps rod holders may be different, anyway that's the price of an education I suppose. So good to see the labour dispute has been sorted, now, another 2 months to clear the backlog, and another 5 weeks to ship over here and another 2 weeks…………… Bob |
