The first option is a painted 2 X 6 with four U-bolts holding two painted, one-inch, oak dowels that fit into the rear scupper holes (and extend slightly beneath them). It's not symmetrical. One side sticks out longer on the Port side of the boat. It is secured in place by a strap that extends from one side down under the boat to the other side tightened down by a ratcheted tensioner. This option allows me to pivot a Minn Kota Endura 30-lb. C2 completely up and out of the water. The battery goes just behind the rear seat secured with the bungee cords. It is bolted together and has a PVC bushing in the middle. It bolts onto the shaft of that same Minnkota trolling motor. By happy coincidence, the drive unit of that motor fits perfectly into the mirage drive well. If I want it in front of me, the momentary removal of a small nut and bolt allows me to the turn the control head 180-degrees so that it is in front of me. Hi John. You have a similar design to mine, albeit wood instead of aluminium. I use a 3 HP two stroke motor and find a different tie down works well. On my TI, there are 2 U shaped lugs in front and two behind the outboard frame. I simply tie 4 cords from the lugs onto the posts which as you can see stick out further than your dowels. It probably takes a little longer to tie off the cords but it has the advantage of no drag from a strap under the hull. I have been using it like this for a couple of years without a problem with a heavier motor than yours. Just a thought. Don't the red ones go fast ![]() ![]() |
