The "ridge" should hang over the front of the rear crossbar. It should mount flat on the beam. Note that the outer contact points align with the mounting holes. This cradle is molded to use as a Dolly Cradle too and hung on the aft of the trailer (Dolly Hanger) as used on the TI trailers. We just don't have the trailers set up for that feature yet.

I just received my cradles. There is a "ridge" on the rear cradle mounting surface and a "recess" in front of that. The mounting hole is off center because of the ridge. At first I thought I should mount this with the ridge hanging over the edge of the cross beam on my trailer. Now I am thinking that the ridge is there to "tilt" the cradle a bit when mounted normally. I think that is what hogman did from his pics. I have no idea what the recess is for.

Confirmation from Mat on mounting??

Do you have a photo of how you are maintaining a gap between the hull and amas to prevent travel rash.

New cradles look great. Glad they went with the carpet instead of rubber pads.

The new cradles sit really quite well at 67". As you can see in the photos, the front cradle sits best under the mast, and the rear cradles behind the aka support bar. The rear isn't perfect, but pretty damn close. Not all AI hulls are exactly the same, but this is where the cradles want to sit with mine. After trying many different ways to tie the boat down, I found it best to tie down the amas separately (As Hobie suggests) and add a bungee at the back, this keeps a nice gap between the main hull and the amas.

I have my new set of cradles, used them on a camping trip this week (just returned yesterday.) I'm happy with the cradles. Your pictures are excellent. Keith

Is it ok to put cradle right under the mast base? I avoided that part so all the mast hardwares in side hull does not get any pressure whenever trailer hits road bumps or when strapping the hull down to trailer. Mine is TI.

I routed out a recess for the ridges to fit into so the rear cradle could sit flat.

Gday, this is the Thread I was looking for About to fit my 2015 solo AI Cradles onto my Hobie trailer and I had a cupla questions. I currently struggle a bit getting my old Solo AI on/off alone, especially getting the cart installed when the boat is half hanging off the trailer. The 2015 hull is about 8.5 kg heavier than my 2008 AI hull, and 13Kg overall, I think. Have you found the 2015 AI solo to be very noticeably more difficult to lift the prow up and push it on? (Health issues mean gone are the days when I could just walk a rigged AI on its cart down the beach to the water.) Matt: Can you tell us more about the upcoming optional mod you mentioned for the H Trailer and is there a Winch made for it? Or any Loading Tips would be appreciated? Thanks.

This must be reference to the Dolly Hanger feature we did on the Tandem PA trailers. That would not happen until next falls catalog, September. If we get it done! OK, lol I'm a Trailer noob so don't know what a Dolly Hanger is but I have seen some cylindrical rollers installed on the very edge of some trailers. On the winch theme, I suppose just installing the winch is not enough as you could not winch an AI onto a trailer unless you had it on the cart first and the prow resting on the rear lip, otherwise the angle would be too severe. And if you had managed to get it up on the cart with the prow already resting on the trailer's rear you wouldn't really need a winch as pushing would do the same thing. I might be missing something here, maybe winches are only needed usually by Tandem AI owners to pull the boat up into position? Do most trailer operators back right into the water up to the tail-lights or park it just when the wheels touch the water? PS: I picked up my 2015 AI cradles today but they had the Grey rubber pads not the Black carpet.
