I seem to be zeroing in on an AI for my post-windsurfing career. Weta looks like a blast, but costs big bucks, offers no hope of car-topping, and does not cope gracefully with shallow-water obstacles. OTOH the AI looks more geezer-friendly and I am pretty sure I could car-top it once at the beginning and once at the end of a season. Problem is that I am tall - so I need to sit in an AI and pedal the Mirage Drive for an hour or so to make sure it works for my long legs/big feet. I drove to a nearby dealer and talked him in to setting up a rack that allowed me to sit in a TI for a few minutes, but it's a little like a chair or bed: it takes more than a few minutes in it to see if it really works. I am thinking maybe meet somebody at one of their usual launch sites on a day when they were going out anyhow pay some reasonable price to give it a try. |

You would have no problem sitting in and pedaling an AI 2. For tall people, the Vantage CT seat should be on the high position with kickstand deployed (it should be permanently deployed, which requires a minor modification: http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=7276&start=720 Scroll down to near the bottom of the page.) Congrats! My husband, Robert, and I picked up a used Tandem Island this summer, and we are having a blast with it. We are a couple of 55 year-olds in good health but starting to show our age, and we both work and have limited times that we can sail. The TI is so easy we can get it in and out of the water quickly, and the Mirage Drives mean we can enjoy the lake in almost any wind conditions. Have fun with your new toy! ~ cfw |
