After years of rumor and research I finally have photographic proof of their existence. After tearing of the clew of my sail I knew I did not want to go the same route. The clear panel of my old sail impacted the shape of the sail during the course of its life. When it came time to replace I knew what I wanted. I ordered the sail made from one color with no plastic panel. Now the sails should keep a constant shape as all the panels will stretch at the same rate.

That looks really nice, i bet its a lot quieter than that plastic stuff and rolls up nicer too? if you don't mind me asking, who made it and what the cost? |

I have sailed TIs with brand new sails (with plastic panel)and this is at least on par with them. I think it is the long term that will define the difference. Also the foot of the sail is cut a little bit higher than the old. Every inch of clearance is appreciated. |

Hobie made sail, special order. I think the total price was around $700 and a little bit of a wait. You could, for that price, have all the panels whatever color you wanted for each. I went with all white because even different color of sail cloth can have a different rate of stretch. My plastic panel remained pretty transparent even to the end. Regardless, I was vigilant and would check under the sail at regular intervals. Just to be sure. So that habit is already in place. And yes, quieter and quicker furling. Very slick. |

Rigging questions if you dont mind Curious where is the clew for the furling line and what is the purpose of the large diameyer line to the right of the furling line, that goes out to the tip of the bow |

I replaced the forward one with a fairlead. I mostly sail solo and run the boat from there. The other line is a dock line. It is easier to handle than some smaller lines. |

And does the spray skirt line stop the Aka folding in immediately if the shear pin goes? |

The Ama started to swing back but was slowed by the bungee that is part of the setup. It gave me enough time to react and catch it. |

Perfect. I will set mine up in a similar manner. I will cleat mine off as I sometimes come into floating wharfs and need to bring in the Amas on one side. |
