Long time lurker here, but a huge, HUGE fan of Hobie Islands. I've been planning on getting a TI for quite some time. Now have the money for it, trying to figure out what to do. I'm watching for good deals on used ones. If something comes up that works, I'll grab it. But, figuring on a new one. I remember reading here on these forums over the winter that folks had orders in on new ones but had long delays. In the Spring, I was able to find some new ones available locally (Philadelphia), but I wasn't ready to buy. So, I figured that end-of-summer would be an ideal time to buy a new TI, as dealers would be looking to clear stock in this region. But, it seems like all dealers are sold out. Are any of you seeing new TIs still available? If not, why? Is Hobie not making many, or is demand really that high? If I have to order one (a 2016?), I doubt I get a deal? I imagine that if I order one, it'll be a 2016, and I'll end up paying MSRP for it. Any comments/suggestions on how to purchase? I'm hoping for a deal but not sure I can get one. The idea of waiting 5/6 months to spend MSRP doesn't sit well with me. Thanks! -Future TI sailor |

Check with your local dealers to see what they have in stock for 2015. They might still be able to order a 2015. You might even be able to score a demo model for a reduced price. Check Craigslist for used. If you preorder a 2016 some dealers will give you a discount (mine called it "boat show" pricing). Good luck on the hunt and welcome to the Island family! Great choice. Cant wait for another hobie to sail with at the local lakes. Search using searchtempest for used boats. I drove to ct. The dealer i Harvey Cedars sells their demo at the end of the season too. |

You might want to check The Boat Locker in Bridgeport CT (about three hours from Philly). Their website lists a 2015 TI in stock. I think they also sell demo boats. |

Hey, I live in Philadelphia and near Atlantic City. I found a used Island Adventure on Craigslist last month and snapped it up. Had to wait a long time for one to show up. Enjoying it so much and the girlfriend wants to go out so we are picking up a brand new TI tomorrow that we ordered from the Hobie dealer in Brigantine, NJ. He said that it was ordered direct from Hobie for me and it was one of the last 2015's to be built. I sail in the bays around Ventnor/Margate/Longport and have ventured out into the ocean a bit, should be easier going in the TI than the AI! |
