All my surf skis have had little breathing tubes and my wave ski has a permeable membrane thing - both of which allow the hull to "breathe" - i.e. not get puffed up as air heats up.

But when I pop a hatch on my AI2, I cannot hear any signs of pressure being equalized, so I am guessing the hull "breathes" somehow (rudder cables?)....

True?

Yes, the center hull breaths (probably through the rudder lines). However the amas do not. You will notice if you open the drain plugs on the amas after a day on the water you will get quite a bit of air escaping. Not enough to worry about though.

My takeaway: leave the ama plugs alone unless/until it's time to drain water.

I've had the TI out maybe a dozen times since I picked it up in April. I have yet to drain any water out of the amas. So unless you think there is water in there it's probably best to just leave the drain plugs alone.
