I am guessing that the pad eye in the AI2's cockpit is intended for attaching the Mirage Drive's leash. viz: https://picasaweb.google.com/1081497986 ... 3275899570 OTOH the pad eye is plastic and the Mirage Drive is pretty heavy.... I am thinking more like the fore iako receptacle as per: https://picasaweb.google.com/1081497986 ... 6987739634 What do most people do? |

On the TI, the padeye near the twist and stow is to store the bungee which is used to hold the starboard mirage drive peddle aft to keep the fins close to the hull. You can make running bowline in your leash and attach it to the aka crossbrace which is what a lot of people do. The forward bulkhead (beneath the aka crossbrace) on the TI has a padeye which can be used for the leash, but the aft bulkhead does not. |

I've been meaning to install a padeye for leash attachment on the forward bulkhead of the rear position of the TI, but an thinking a couple screws to hold it with ought any backing would be inadequate. Would well nuts that expand on the inside work well? Certainly can't get my hand up in there from inside... ~BoP |

Surely it is a no-brainer to just tie a loop of line around the crossbar with a snapshackle on the end, to hook to a small loop on the Miragedrive. You can then, by selecting appropriate strength of line, guarantee that you won't lose your drive. |

That is the solution that I thought was the most logical - but I keep coming back to wondering if there is some specific purpose for that padeye next to the fore hatch.

Is it not for storing the bungee hook that otherwise holds the starboard mirage peddle aft when not peddling? It could be, but the bungee would cross the twist-n-seal hatch cover if used for that purpose. Assuming it is not put there to mystify some people, use it for anything you want. For example, it could be used, as I do, to tether my bilge hand pump which I store under my Vantage seat. You could also attach a more secure tether for your Vantage seat, or you might tether a small dry bag with foul weather clothing, or tether the Mirage drive, or.... Keith |

You can obtain some very small SST quick links that are stronger and less bulky than the smallest aluminum carabiner. I'm using them on my mirage drives and seat leashes. As others have said it's easy to just loop around the aka crossbars and secure the line to itself with the quicklinks. Chris |

As others stated,on my TI I also just rap the leash around the aka bar to hold the rear Mirage drive. For the pad eyes next to the hatches , I use them to attach my electronics or small dry bag while on the water. When traveling, I use them to hold the seats in place with a bungee, so the won't fall off going down the road. I don't think you would want to use them for mirage drive leashes, I would think the leash would get in the way while pedaling or even worse, your foot getting caught. |
