I'm not sure exactly what I am going to do furling-line/sheet-line-wise, but it's pretty sure to involve mounting things on the gunwale(s).

My gut says "Just cover all of both gunwales with YakAttack track and then start playing around."

The YakAttack system seems to allow easy relocation fore-and-aft in light of hands-on experience - cam cleats, for instance...

At http://www.yakattack.us/by-application/ ... -hardware/ I see that there are two types of track:

  • GT90 with a single row of screws down the center
    .
  • GT175 with a row of screws on each side of the track.

Is one or the other the right fit for all of the AI's gunwale area? (bearing in mind that the width of the gunwales varies a lot)

Also, I see "FullBack Backing Plate". May I assume that adding backing plates is a no-brainer?

Finally, I see that now they are offering a price point option with GTSL175 and GTSL90 tracks made out of "Polymer" (whatever *that* is...) instead of alu. Safe to say those would be a no-no for sheet cleat mounting?

In the interest of full disclosure.... I just fired off an email to YakAttack support - basically with the contents of this post.

But I still want to pose the question here because of the obvious (?) AI2-specific accessibility issues of various points along the AI2's gunwales - i.e. mainly is installation of these tracks even possible along some areas?

On my AI-2015 I installed these models:
GT90-08GT90 GearTrac, 8"
GT90-04GT90 GearTrac, 4"

in combination with
FB-GT90-04GT90 / GTSL90 backing plate, 4"
FB-GT90-08GT90 / GTSL90 backing plate, 8"

When they are mounted in this way they are extremely durable.

In my opinion, the model GT175 (GT175-04 - GT175 GearTrac, 4") can fit in only one place of the kayak.

But I'm not sure if FBH-GT175 (FullBack backing plate) will fit inside.

looks great! Could you help me find the mounting hardware that you used to connect your starport mounts to the track?

Thank you!

Here's something I thought was worth the fifteen bucks I paid for it: http://www.yakattack.us/RB0832_p/rb0832.htm

Basically a couple of hollowed-out tapered screws that allow positioning/installation of back plates without inside access by the hands to the area of installation.

I put them on my old Pro Angler 12 and they did a perfect job.
