Okay, so I learned the hard way this weekend that it is a good idea to use blue Locktite when replacing Mirage Drive fins (good thing they float), or in my case, replacing a bent shaft. So, the question is: How much? Just a bit at the end of the shaft, or a generous coating all over (bearing in mind that they'll probably have to come off again in the future for some yet to be discovered reason. Thanks in advance! |

I am confused... You didn't mean applying Loctite to secure the fins to the shaft did you? You actually WANT the fins to be free to rotate around the masts,. as a fundamental part of the design of the Miragedrive. I believe you should use Loctite on the threads on the metal masts only. |

You don't need much loctite. Just a midge around the threaded part is all you need - a drop or two is fine. Tony, he is referring to where the mast threads into the sprocket. |

I know that Josh, but the way he wrote it suggested he was asking about putting loctite "all over" the unthreaded part of the mast |

WAVERIDER wrote: you can straighten bent mast you dont need to replace them This is true, although they can only be bent back into shape so much before the steel is weakened considerably. Sooner or later (most usually a lot later) they really should be replaced. Tony I hadn't considered if he meant putting loctite over the entire thing (hehe), but re-reading it, yeah I can see how you read that into it. |
