Search is not working for me on this topic. Can somebody point me to the best or various peoples' ways of keeping the aka knuckle inserts from dismounting? When I transfer my body to a haka bench I see the forward insert wants to slide out and I have to stop that. Thanks for any help.

Would like to know what others have learned about this in terms of something simple and effective.

There is a locking mechanism that keeps the akas from coming out of the knuckles. If yours are not working, I'd look into solving that problem first and foremost. They're either not going in far enough, or something is keeping the spring pins from engaging.

This is what I do:
Sprayskirt holds the front aka in

These lines hold the rear.

My aka came out twice when I got my first TI. Never Again! :)

There's a post where somebody used ratcheting tie downs to hold the akas in. If I were to venture into the open ocean, I would use the same system. Looked bomb proof

Thanks all... Tom, the clip mechanism works fine. I just built a new haka and I think the way I attached it to the forward aka was creating a wierd sidewise torque on the insert. Could not duplicate the dismount on land with the haka removed.

Kayaking-Bob yes... I had seen your picture for the after akas before but could not find it again. I couldn't remember where you attached the preventer line to the aka. I see it now. I'll be trying that aft. I've also figured out another interesting way to do it forward. I'll have pictures of that up here shortly.

May have to post this separately, but here's a quick question as well. The flexiboom thread with the curved tent poles has a link in it for where to get that set of poles. But the link is dead. Anybody reading this know where to buy them now??

Here is what I went with: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipP ... JaRW5TYzBR

Line could be a bit more snug.... and maybe I will remedy that. ..... But it works, stopping the aka once it gets about 2 inches out.

I could rationalize that the good part of letting the aka get a couple inches out is the visual indication that things have come loose as opposed to keeping it very tight and perhaps going a long time before realizing that it had come loose.

The snap connector enables quick/easy removal of the aka.

If I were doing it again, I would try to avoid drilling/tapping the screw hole by using something like a compression hitch and kite line around the aka - sufficient that it would not pull over the knuckle assembly under pressure.
