I've been using keeleazy on my adventure. You couldn't drag it on the pavement much, but it's done a good job protecting my hull from short scuffs with the pavements and dragging on the coarse sand of our beaches. If it's not thick enough, you could always apply several layers. Also, it's very easy to remove and clean off residual glue with scentless acetone. http://www.keeleazy.com/ |

I had absolutely no luck with keeleazy, it shredded the very first time it contacted a concrete ramp. Then it wouldn't stay adhered to the TI's keel and started to peel off leaving a mess. It didn't even last half a season. All in all a poor product, don't waste your money on it. Several layers of Gorilla tape worked much better and was far less expensive. I'm currently using the Gorilla tape until I can come up with something better. I'm trying to find a metal or thick plastic keel guard or fabricate my own. This will be an off season project. If I come up with anything viable I'll report back here. The Megaware KeelGuard product looks promising but the only caveat I see is the 3M adhesive. Adhesives don't adhere well to plastic so it may not hold, at least not for long. I have contacted Megaware to see if their product will work on plastic hulls. |

Reply from Megaware KeelGuard regarding use of their product on the Hobie TI: Thank you for your interest in our product and I wish I could give you better news, but…. A protector will not work for this type of keel. The angles are too severe and the upturn on the bow is too sharp for the memory of the product to allow it to stay in place. It will want to pull away. Sorry. We are always working on ideas for products to work on these type of boats, but as of yet, nothing. |
