I apologize if this has been covered before, but i did a quick search and did not find much. so, here's the question: where do you sit when you sail your tandem island solo? front or back? and when you sail tandem, does the skipper sit front or back? and why? i am installing my fishfinder and rigging other stuff that would best be configured for one seat or the other. thanks in advance for all thoughtful replies, mick |

Noooooooo! You just invited a whole lot of debate! ![]() In all seriousness, this has been covered in some quite lengthy discussions but not in it's own topic. It's more of a personal preference. Some of us like the front, some like the back. I sit in the front when soloing. I'm too fat to sit in the rear. I've found that if you weigh over 200# and you sit in the rear, then the bow comes up out of the water. That's fine for going downwind, but not so good for going upwind. The bow gets blown around in higher winds and you end up going in circles. You could mitigate that with ballast or just move to the front. I also like to hike out on the tramps and that's impossible to do when sitting in the rear. When out with the family I still tend to sit in the front. Partially because the furling line is up there, partially because my wife doesn't have the same drive to sail that I do, and mostly because if she sat up front with the kids I'm afraid she would throw them overboard, so separation is a blessing. ![]() If I was rigging a fish finder I would do it on an articulating arm on the rear aka crossbar. That way you could move it to be viewed by either position. I'm sure Railblaza and Ram have something that would accommodate. |

It's really as simple as trying out both positions and deciding for yourself. Personally I find both positions acceptable but I prefer the rear seat because of the better view. |
