So, is anyone else watching the Vendee Globe race? When I am out in nice wind and waves I love watching the ama's running like a a torpedo or a submarine that is just about to break the surface. Just a smooth, sleek wave of water rising from the surface. Then the occasional submarining of the bow, the spray of the water from the wind. The wave piercing bow doing just what it is designed to do.. and soaking me in the process. Then you watch these guys.... The only thing keeping them up upright is the ballasting effect of enormous brass balls. https://youtu.be/1HWpcntz2BE?t=109 When people see me out in my 18.5ft of roto-molded sailing simplicity.. in my mind, I am skimming the surface on a sleek, monstrously over powered open 60 in the southern oceans. |
