I recently received my new 2015 Revo 16 (old adventure hull with new Vantage seat) and also got all the parts required to add one 2015 AI ama.

I have a few questions in regards to this set up. Please note that I am not sailing.

1. Is this stable if there is no added weight on the ama side?

2. What is the best way to take a child or two (3 and 5 yr olds). A haka board or the trampolines? If the trampolines, do you have one for sale? 8) 8) If I need to add a haka board, what is the easiest way? I do not have a garage to work on one....

3. Anyone know what is the performance hit I will take with the ama attached? Is it outweighed by stability that is added?

You are building a Hawaiian canoe :)

If you are using AI2 parts (aka & ama) it should be very stable. Earlier AI's the ama was quite light and not enough buoyancy for peoples weight out on the aka without a lot of drag.
And with the newer hull, a tramp will work ok (older AI's the tramp was too close to the water for people to ride without dragging in the water). a Haka would be more versatile.
Both maybe even better.

Hobie does sell each side tramp, but probably a special order from your dealer.

The Revo 16 do not have the built-in hardware to allow the mounting of Island parts - only the Adventure hulls (older style) had the required inserts to mount o - be very careful with this Modification, you are not going to have any structure to hold the weight of the aka arms and ama - there's no inserts in the hull bottom for the v brace either.

Yes, I am using parts from a the 2015+ AI so that is good to hear.

I am making backing plates for the thru bolts.

I hope that because I am not sailing, it should not be a concern. I definitely do not need the v brace and I only plan to carry 50 lbs on the tramp. The only issue I could think of is if Hobie decided to make the plastic thinner on the rails of the Revo vs the adventure. Can someone at Hobie chime in on this?

We are not trying to make anything thinner - no - the issue is there's not built-in hardware and I do think the v brace gives some load dispersion... you are doing something that we never intended to have done - just keep a very close eye on the hull after use.

Thank you for your input. I will keep a very close eye on everything. If the hull's thickness is similar, I should be ok as long as I mount everything solid with a backing plate.

As far as the v brace I was under the impression that its main requirement was to disperse the load from the mast. If I am not sailing and I have a small child on the tramp, the weight being added to the aka brackets should be minimal right? Since the flotation of the ama is providing opposite force, this should be the case. But then again I am not an engineer so I may be wrong lol
