Sorry 'nap' but the fact the Lock Bearing is held in place with 6/32 screws should indicate they're not made to be torque'd down.....

It would not make any difference if the the Lock Bearing was plastic or SST, they're 'just' 6/32 screws.

Understood. Thanks.
I think this lock bearing is poorly design. Sorry Hobie.
Ill just put a drop of sikaflex on the new one to strengthen that part with small crack. And include in my maintenance checklist. I purchased 2 as backup and will keep the old ones. And continue to use the keep out line as I feel this lock bearing will eventually break and cause the akas to come out.

For those installing it, look closely where the screw head will sit and youll see that pushing the screw head down more than it supposed to will also push the plastic down. I have a poor vision and installed it outside with not much lighting which contributed to not making good judgement.

Free Island Updates Announced To Dealers Today

We have received enough parts to start offering an AKA Lock update. We have also created a furling line guide that helps to prevent the line from getting stuck around the bearing plate. Both kits are available through warranty at no charge.

79520604 AKA LOCK KIT HINGED HOOK
This kit includes 4 sets of aka spring hooks and the aka bearings they lock to. This creates a more positive lock for the aka into the crossbar that is less affected by part distortion or aka twisting motions. This is standard on all new Islands. 79512101 ISLAND FURLER LINE GUIDE KIT
Keeps the furling line from getting stuck on the bearing plate. Guides the line up onto the drum when you pull on the furling line. This is standard with all new Islands. Instructions: https://static.hobiecat.com/item_attachments/79512101.pdf

Contact your dealer to receive these updates.

My dealer said these are no free upgrades.....Is it just a certain area that free upgrades are available?

If Hobie says they're free, the dealer needs to comply...

How is it not possible? Don't the holes line up on the underside of the bearing housing? I only say this because I don't recall anything remarkable when I fitted it to my TI.

My old mate Pirate installed his yesterday after we had a discussion about the furling line guide.
The only way it made any sense was to disregard the totally misleading instructions and work it out applying logic!
It makes absolutely no sense to install it under - so he installed it above!
Its a bit fiddly because there are non captured nuts that will drop into the mast well if you aren't careful.
I know he took photos but I dont have a copy yet.
I expect i will in a day or so.
Perhaps this bit of info will be enough for you to figure it out.
it is truly amazing that no one has posted photos of the installation after all this time!

I must admit, this one has me puzzled. I have the Gide installed just as the instructions show but I do not see how it does anything at all. I’m usually pretty good at visual-spatial perception but on this one. They say it works and I haven’t experienced a jam yet so, I’ll just consider it magic.

Good find maxwellmark.
It fits as per the instructions on 2015+ model AIs - but requires modification to fit earlier boats.
No one I know has ever actually experienced the issue that this upgrade was designed to rectify.
I ended up removing it from my 2016 Dune AI when I had to replace the top & bottom mast receiver ball bearing plates due to my 24 plastic balls falling out.
