I have a chance to buy a new 2017 Adventure Island for 15% off. Are there any improvements in the 2018 that might make it worth 15% more? I see that the 2018 has the 180 drive, but I can't see traveling all that much in reverse. Or is it more important than that? Any other differences? Thanks |

I thought the 17s had 180 drives? My 17 TI does... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't know, but the ads online for the 2018s say "new for 2018! 180 drive". I found an old post that said the 2018 TI had a new furling line also, but can't find anything for the AI. |

Our 2017 TI came with the 180's - I'm sure it was new for '17. We find it a useful feature, but not essential - if you just have a paddle to hand you can slow/stop/back-up if needs be, but pulling the MDs into reverse has helped us stop quickly on a couple of occasions when needed (e.g. when coming ashore in coves & spotting a hidden rock under the surface!). What we often do now is put one in reverse, one forward when manoeuvring carefully in tight spaces against tide/wind, with paddle in hand to control side movements. But this could also be done with pre-180 drives of course, by turning one around. |

I just got a 2018, and had a 2017 at one point (Both AI's - don't ask ![]() All that I have noticed is that: * Mast and Aka clip upgrades come pre-installed - Otherwise you get them from the dealer for free * The new trampoline are better designed (with a latch to tie them when rolled up and not in use * The side pockets are rubber, not string net * The adjustment button for the drive (which lets you select a number to spread them optimally) is a button on top of each pedal as opposed to a lever on its side (which you probably will notice all of the ONE times you will use it ![]() I also had the 17 withy the 180 drives, so that would not qualify as a change I hope this helps. AFAIAC, these differences are trivial to say the least. 15% is worth it (that's how I had bought my 2017, BTW) |
