Fellow Island sailors:

I will be kicking around the following locations / dates if any Island sailors wish to meet up:
- Port Canaveral, FL - March 29 and April 14
- Marco Island, FL - March 31-April 12

Trying to shake the ice out of my sails in the warmer FL sunshine!

See recent winter frostbite sails with my TI (Atlantic Ocean / Delaware Bay).

Wind looks optimal Friday. What times do you plan to launch, recover?

Dates / Times:

Current plan is the following, two half day sails:

- Friday March 29 (AM) ~ 9 AM - sail out of Rodney S. Ketcham Boat Ramp, Port Canaveral - half day sail (AM) Port Canaveral and poke out into the Atlantic (sea conditions permitting). Back to boat ramp by ~ Noon to 1 PM - about 6-7 mile loop. Wind looks favorable currently (10-20 knots out of the NE), tacking / reaches in Port Canaveral with ~ 3-5 foot chop in the Atlantic. Temps in low 70s - yea!

- Friday March 29 (PM) ~ 1 PM - sail out of Kiwanis Island Park boat ramp (off of 520 (Merritt Island Causeway)). Sailing south on the Banana River to about mid way down on Merritt Island (meeting my son who lives on the island) and then back to Kiwanis Island Park ~ 5-6 PM. Will need to dip and raise the mast on the TI for passing under the Causeway. Expect about 9-10 mile loop. Wind looks favorable currently (10-20 knots out of the NE). Looks like a nice full reach down wind followed by a close reach with tacking on the return leg. Waves look to be in the 1-3 foot range in the Banana River. Temps in low 70s. Will be using the outboard if needed to make timeline.

If weather changes - may just do the afternoon sail.

Looking ahead to Marco:

Will be in Marco Island March 30 - April 12 sailing everyday weather permitting.

The expected sail on April 14 in Port Canaveral looks like it will not happen at this point.

Will be looking for an update/ video of your adventure. Heard the Atlantic was pretty roiled.

TI sail details and POIs:
Hobie Tandem Island Sail. Hobie TI 2016, rigged for offshore with outboard
Port Canaveral, Florida, USA
Tour of the port, the SpaceX Fleet and the Atlantic Ocean outside the port.

GPS trace – Start from the Rodney Ketcham boat ramp in West side of Port Canaveral and travel East to the Atlantic Ocean and back to the boat ramp.

Pass the SpaceX fleet traveling to and from the Atlantic Ocean.

Due to off-shore storms a working replica of Columbus’s Santa Maria made an emergency stop in Port Canaveral!
Interesting juxtaposition of Explorers … Santa Maria – SpaceX!

Cruise Ships – Disney – Caravel and many others

SpaceX Recovery fleet including Mr. Stevens, Go Quest,
Go Searcher and the drone ship Of Course I Still Love You
With 4 diesel powered azimuth thrusters

Submarine USS Nathanael-Green (SSBN-636)
Sail Memorial in Port Canaveral

In the weeks ahead I hope to publish several more videos documenting TI sails in the Banana River and Marco Island FL areas.
