Safety - a few thoughts.
Over time, I have put together two "grab bags" for my Tandem Island. These are strapped in behind my seat, within easy reach.
One contains ground tackle,
• a blue Cooper anchor (with 3m of line leading to a swivel - do not attach chain to the anchor directly as it will interfere with
digging in),
• 25m of rope,
• 1m of chain,
• several shackles, and a
• kevlar sea anchor drogue.
The other contains:-
• Aide Comp SC first aid (

- with added morphine, additional dressings, tape, bandages etc
• Flares (handheld: 2 red, 2 orange smoke)
• Sea marker orange dye (2 Pks)
• Emergency (foil) blankets (2)
• Torch
• Emergency horn (LOUD – earplugs needed!)
• Hand-bearing compass (Plastimo)
• Hand-bearing compass (wrist-mounted)
• Sharp knife in scabbard
• Signalling mirror
• Gaffer tape
(I also carry VHF, PLB, 10m permanently attached anchor line, strobe, chart plotter, bilge pump, mask & flippers and 2 litres emergency water etc)
Anybody have any other suggestions?
