Post subject: | Weight of TI vs. Oasis -- is there a big difference? |
Hey all -- new member here and I am trying to figure out the difference in weight of the TI as just a kayak vs the tandem Oasis. I was going to buy a used 2016 Oasis, but also saw a used 2013 TI at what seems to be a good price. It got me thinking about going with the TI, even though I will probably use it just as a tandem kayak 50-60% of the time, but want to learn how to sail it as well. I know they are both super heavy in comparison to my surf skis, but if the difference in weight between the TI in "kayak mode" is not substantially more than the Oasis, I am thinking of going with the TI for versatility alone. -- I just haven't been able to get this info during my searches. This is especially important because I will be launching it off a dock at my house mostly as a kayak and sailing at spots elsewhere. So the weight of the kayak is important as I will need to get it in and out of the water. Thoughts from the group? |

Looks like the main TI hull is "FITTED HULL WEIGHT: 130 LBS / 59 KG" Oasis: "FITTED HULL WEIGHT: 93 LBS / 42 KG" |

Thanks. What does fitted hull weight mean in terms of the word “fitted”? |

Fitted hull means the bare hull weight plus all the fittings Hobie adds internally/externally, not including seats, drives, paddles but includes drivewell plugs ...I think. I weighed my ‘10 TI and posted details here https://www.hobie.com/au/en/forums/view ... 71&t=53756 My TI has a hull weight of 59kg, plus the 2 seats, drives and paddles for a kayak mode total of around 71kg. The 2010-2014 TI models were much the same. In 2015 the TI hull had some minor hull changes like reverse bow and seatwell to accomodate the Vantage seats, with a slight increase in weight. |

The main hull of the TI is a tank. I can’t compare to an Oasis but I can compare to an outfitter and there is no comparison. I could throw the Outfitter around while the TI hull felt about the same as a PA 14 and it wasn’t getting thrown around. |
