Post subject:  Middle Keys Info

Planning a trip to the Middle Keys in Feb next year. While I've driven through the Middle Keys many times, I haven't spent any time there in many, many years and I have a few random questions...........
1. I know there's a large (wide) bike/pedestrian trail but forgot where it begins, i.e., Marathon, ? ? ? lower in the Keys ? ?
2. For kayaking which is better Florida Bay side or the Atlantic ?
3. Kayaking - any favorite cross throughs from the Bay to the Atlantic ?
4. Any recommendations for non-corp. small resorts, etc ? Best beaches - Bay or Atlantic ?
5. I seem to recall many places, again in the lower keys, where you can literally pull off A!A and launch kayaks nearby - recommendations ?

thanx in advance,
bill

Planning a trip to the Middle Keys in Feb next year. While I've driven through the Middle Keys many times, I haven't spent any time there in many, many years and I have a few random questions...........
1. I know there's a large (wide) bike/pedestrian trail but forgot where it begins, i.e., Marathon, ? ? ? lower in the Keys ? ? Don't know
2. For kayaking which is better Florida Bay side or the Atlantic ? Normally Atlantic will rougher.
3. Kayaking - any favorite cross throughs from the Bay to the Atlantic ? There is a pass through from Key Largo Sound on the Atlantic side to Blackwater Sound on the Gulf side. Large boats use this, so be careful.
4. Any recommendations for non-corp. small resorts, etc ? Best beaches - Bay or Atlantic ? No recommendations.
5. I seem to recall many places, again in the lower keys, where you can literally pull off A!A and launch kayaks nearby - recommendations ? No recommendations...probably whatever you remember, there will be less. The State of Florida has put up fences to prevent that sort of impromptu parking in places.
