I found a pair of AI's. A 2018 and a 2019 at my local kayak shop, but because they were demo boats, they don't come with the warranty.

Asking price for each boat is $3,700 + approx. 9.25% sales tax. So out the door the boats would be about $4,040. Then there's Ca. registration & title.

If I bought a brand new 2020 AI, it would be more like $5,200 + 9.25% sales tax, bringing the total up to $5,680. So buying used would save me $1,640. So I'm wondering if the $1,640 savings is worth losing the warranty on such a new boat. Apparently the 2019 came with a 3 year warranty.

Naturally there are pros and cons to dealing with a brick & mortar boat shop. More expensive, to be sure, but very lightly used. Though I do worry they may have been abused on their demo sails. I'd hate to have to replace a Mirage Drive right away, as that would defeat buying used to save money. There's also a $300 demo fee  , and a dealer isn't going to let you fib on the price to save on registration costs. :P

One really big advantage to buying from this particular shop, is that it's located almost directly across the slough from where I have a secure, gated storage spot, so I could literally sail (or pedal) 200 yards, take it out at the ramp, and roll it an additional 50 yards to the storage lot.
That would mean I wouldn't need to find a trailer for it right away, just a dolly, and could take my time building something affordable myself.

We do not exclude warranty from boats having been used in Demo situations. The warranty starts when the boats entered service. If there is still time... for sure the 2019 would be covered awhile.

Well that's interesting to hear. The shop said otherwise.

Is it accurate information that the 2019 comes with a 3 year warranty?

Thank you for that information. I'll contact the shop and see if I can get them straightened out.

Hello TechD45,

Mind if I ask you the dealer's name and location on the used Islands? I'm looking for an Island, too, and live in southern CA.

Thank you,
Craig
