| Post subject: | Mast sleeve slipped |
Has anyone had the sleeve that joins the two pieces of the mast slip down into the lower half. Last week while sailing in a light to moderate wind I notice the bend on my mast wasn’t even. I knew something was wrong. I was able to stop almost immediately and take down my mast and pull it from the sail. While pulling it out of the sail the two mast pieces disconnected and I noticed the sleeve had slipped almost all the way down into the lower half of the mast. I was able to pull it out and it looked like there was some adhesive residue on the half of the sleeve that goes into the lower half of the mast. I evened out the sleeve for the top and the bottom mast sections and wrapped a little tape halfway up the sleeve so it would stay firm in the lower unit. I know this is only a temporary fix. I was lucky the mast didn’t break. Has any one else have this issue? Can I glue the sleeve permanently in the lower section with some marine adhesive? I do not want this happening again. |
