Post subject: | Tandem Island Akas not Settling Well in Amas (overloaded?) |
Aloha friends. I know there must be a thread on this somewhere, but I can not find it. The problem I am having is that when I am admittedly a bit overloaded (humans totaling 550+ lbs plus gear) on my TI—with tramps on and at least one human on a tramp—the akas don't sit fully into the amas (2012 model). The akas lift far enough out, it ends up cracking the top of the amas where the akas settle in due to all the action. Perhaps there is no solving this with the weight I have on it, but we really enjoy the all family sail and the craft handles well otherwise. Thanks in advance. |

I don’t get how any extra weight would cause the aka (bars) to lift out of the ama (floats). There’s no weight on the ama itself right? It sounds to me more like your ama are drooping as a result of bungees losing their tension. Upgrade your ama bungees or do the double bungee mod if not done already. https://www.hobie.com/au/en/forums/view ... 0&p=285842 |

I think with ?knuckles? It is very sunny here in SW Florida 26.6 deg north and I find need of a Bimini just to wander aimlessly about pedaling I’m dragging my AI up on a concrete dock with pool noodles to keep from scraping bottom exploring and find I need H-bar to stand up to get out also Thanks for all your help also. |

It is possible I need new shock cord, and I do like the doubling tip there, I will try to dial it in and see if the helps. I have wondered if all the weight on the hull makes it drop in the water deeper and that was effecting the position of the amas to akas. I'm sailing this weekend so I'll try to observe and/or tighten my cords. If that's not working I'll take some photos and post them. And no, there was no weight on my amas when this problem occurs. Happy Aloha Friday! |
