Post subject:  2014 tandem island rudder will not stay up

I recently purchased a used TI and while the body seems in good shape I am in the process of replacing bungees and ropes and such. I notice the rudder will not stay up when I pull the cord. It goes up but will fall back down again if I don't physically secure it with the rope in the back. Does anyone have an idea of what would cause this? Is it just the lines are too slack and need to be tightened or something harder to fix?

Thanks!

Are you cleating the pull-up rope? If you don't cleat it, the rudder will fall down.

You also have to cleat the pull-down rope when the rudder is down or the water pressure will cause it to lift and you'll lose steering.

Oops I was not cleating it. The down rope has a cleat right near where you pull it out but the up does not as far as I can see but I will give it another look. Thanks for letting me know as I was worried there was something wrong but that's a very simple solution.

Whoops that sounds like a simple solution that I was overlooking. I see a cleat next to the down pullie but not the up. I will give it another look and try to locate it. Should it be in a similar place? Glad there isn't something more wrong.

Some earlier Island's had a simple cleat on the pocket to cleat the up-line.
