Hello from the Philippines,
I am a beach/water guy meaning diver, power boater, terrible kite and windsurfer etc just beginning with sailing ( I did a tiny bit as a kid) and I need some general advice about buying a used hobie 16.
Always been fascinated with the cat and now that I am retired but not tired I intend to indulge myself in this pastime.
All advice on the process and what to watch out for is gratefully received.
In advance,many thanks
Keep Bubblin'
Christopher

There a few standard pieces of advice for those looking to buy a used Hobie 16.

1. Look for soft spots in the hull. Press firmly on every part of the hull and sides top. You should be able to stand on the tops of the hulls and not have them bend in or give. Don't buy if you encounter soft hulls.

2. Replace the standing rigging, the wires that hold up the sail. I hot stuck in the middle of a lake when this happened to me. Lucky I wasn't hurt when the mast came crashing down.

Thank you Kevin....I have read quite a few of the posts on this forum and yours was the only one that mentioned standing rigging. I am interested in what caused the problem? Shackles or attachments or had the rigging simply degenerated through rust and use? That certainly would have been a bad outcome if the mast had hit you anywhere sensitive.
