With the Hobie "Double Double" trailer, can it just as easily transport a SINGLE TI when necessary? Would the single TI have to ride on one side or the other? What (I think) I would prefer, is a single trailer that is convertible for double-duty with a removable upper rack. In other words, the second TI would be above the first - instead of side-by-side. I realize anything is possible with custom trailer work, but is there any vendor offering this setup already? Thanks! |

I have the Hobie double-double trailer. It can handle one or two TI's(or AI's) assembled or up to 3 AI/TI/kayak hulls without ama's attached. I built a simple strap-on rack for the ama's to travel above the hulls when transporting three. Don't know about any other specialty trailer. One minor problem with the double-double trailer is it is 8 feet wide. |

It should be a doddle to add two hoops with cradles added, plus (to minimise drooping ends) a couple of props from the top Island to the bottom one (in line with the rollers out near the ends on the bottom one). The only downside I could envisage is that you would have to remove the bottom one before spreading out the amas (I fully assemble my TI on the trailer ready to go as soon as I park the car after launching) |

I found this posted by Stringy back in 2009: This is generally what I have in mind except the upper level is removable for when only a single is needed. Thanks Stringy! ![]() |

you might check out the two-level trailer Trailex makes. The SUT-5-UBC. With appropriate mods, this seems as if it would work for double deck trailering of AI/TI boats without excessive width. http://www.trailex.com/sut.cfm. Hopefully you could customize an order, with a longer shaft (might need longer side longitudinals, too, to get the right cradle separation, maybe lower elevators, and lose their cradles so you could put on Island cradles. ![]() |
