I know the SUT-350 is a popular trailer. But, I can snag a 250. Think that'll work for a TI? Short distance, under 10 miles. Note that it's the SUT-250-M2 (https://www.trailex.com/SUT-250-M2.cfm). So, I can remove the riser bars, transport it upside down. Also, I think I can store it on this trailer, too, since it'll be upside down (if I use some padding). Thoughts? Thanks! |

Upside down... yes, but why? I would make a platform of plywood wide enough and long enough to get two of the cradles attached and then carry assembled upright. If only for an occasional short move... You could even simply pull up on the plywood platform and tie down. |

Carrying all the bits on the trailer you would be very close to its limit. Whatever framework you added to carry the TI would probably put you over that limit. You would have to carry the drives, paddles, seats etc in the vehicle so the trailer capacity isn't exceeded. I recently weighed my 2010 TI and got a fully rigged weight of about 228 lbs A TI has never weighed 198lb fully rigged. Where does this 198lb figure come from? Why do Hobie persist in publishing incorrect weight specs? The AI figures are way off as well. |

I don't know if you are looking at a used trailer ... but at the list price, I'd keep looking. For under $1500, our local trailer dealer (Wilderness Adventure Trailers, Holland Michigan) custom built out their Kayak Kaboose trailer WITH the TI cradles, ready to go. We just back down the ramp and slide the TI right into the water (amas folded) then set up and go ... coming back we fold in the amas, and the TI pushes right back onto the cradles, with the bow supported by the spare. We cover and store until the next adventure. Easy Peasy. What I suspected has been proven out -- the Pain In the Ass (PIA) factor is inversely proportional to the odds that you will get out on your boat on a moment's notice. When you're chasing a warm breeze, ease of launching matters. I simply reference our own website (can't trust my memory!). I was pretty sure they fixed all that last year, but maybe driven by 2016 updates and wrong data got in again? I'll point that out to marketing. |

It has taken a long time, years, to get the correct weight for the Hobie Tandem Island on the Hobie site (assuming it is now correct.) The Hobie site still shows 142# as the weight for the 2015 AI. The correct weight for the 2015 is 185# as you noted on this forum. That misrepresentation on your web site, which is clearly deliberate and has gone on for more than a year, could seriously mislead some people. It is just not right. Keith |
