Post subject:  How to stop puddles from forming on the Island cover

When I started storing my TI outside, I found that the Hobie cover allowed big puddles to form. Hopefully you can see this photo showing the puddles... the puddles were made with my garden hose, so the water is much cleaner than the puddles after they've been on the boat for a few days.

So I built a 3/4" PVC frame to go under the cover. Here are photos of the PVC frame by itself and on the boat:

At the aft end, the crossing fits in the fish finder hole:

Amidships, these two fittings go in the top of scupper holes. The type of fitting isn't important, it just needs to keep the PVC from sliding into the scupper holes:

At the fore, the cutoff tees nestle over the fore crossbar:

And finally, the cover with the frame installed. Not very exciting, but it's been working like a champ.

I place my mast/sail in it's bag, centered on the AI & TI under the cover. I clip the top of the bag to the bow handle and use the closure lines to loop over the rudder to keep it centered. Yours looks good too!

And that's enough to keep the puddles from forming? When I put my mast in that location, the puddles form between the mast and the akas. If I don't need the frame that would be even better.

Timely thread. We have had a couple of big rain events here in Sydney and I have been thinking about the same sort of frame setup to deal with those two big puddles. Will try the mast idea.

I cut two notches into a 6" diameter pvc to set it lengthwise across the akas down the middle of the boat. Works nicely.

There are belly straps and loops along the bottom edge so you can add lines for getting some tension on it too.

I know this thread is old, but I'm working in solving the same problem here. I'm wondering if this is related... as I was looking at the cover today I noticed there's a loop (overlapping straps, really) at the top/center of every strap, and there's some velcro in the middle too. The "loop" is about the size of a hand, but obviously using this as a handle to lift the kayak wouldn't make sense. Any ideas what these loops are for, anyone?

Maybe @mmiller has a definitive answer? :)

I'm asking on this thread because it occurs to me that running 3/4" to 1" PVC through those handles, while leaving the seats up (Vantage CT - stiff backs) would create a nice arc that might keep the puddles away pretty well.

I place a pair of upside down five gallon buckets on the crossbars, it tents the whole cover nicely.
