Trying to sort out car topping TI. If someone has the TI Cradle Set (Hobie PN 72020402) available can they tell me: Their overall length. How far apart the sets of bolt holes are from each other. If there is any sort of indents in the bottom to accommodate a Yakima round bar or Thule square bar (Picture would help too!) Thanks. I haven't found this information online. Regards, --dimes, NJ |

I am having the same issue. I have 2017 TI on order and I am planning to top it on my Tacoma. First I must tell you to look for a more sturdier solution than the Thule/Yakima since those racks can take 160lb. Your boat is heavier. This is not factoring in wind force during highway travel that can increase the boat weight substantially. I got 300lb rated Front Runner for my Tacoma. As for the rest, it is still work in progress... |

I meant to reply on your other post, sorry for the delay. The cradles are spaced out at 67" on center. The front cradle goes right about the front mirage drive opening. There is a standoff on the underside of the cradles. They would work better with a square bar since they are really designed to be installed on a trailer and most trailers are square tubing. Honestly I think you would be better off just using some 2" PVC installed on your vehicle's crossbars on 11" centers. Much cheaper! Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk |

I already bought a used BMW wagon in part to cartop a yak. I figured the lower height would be better than a tall SUV for loading. On the wagon I have a rear hitch being installed and will get a T Bar. I thought that the weight would be sufficiently distributed between the roof and the bar. My wagon can go about 46" or so on a roof spread. With T Bar probably 40" behind that. So id say my current plan is PVC bunks with wood inside for structure. Fixed to two roof bars and somehow also quickly fixing the PVC to the rear T Bar. --dimes |

^^^^^^ umm... what? 2 Whispbar S17 bars on order and the necessary feet for my car. An appointment at UHaul scheduled to add a hitch and will order a T-Bar tmw. I'm still planning on 10' length of 2" or 3" PVC (Schedule 40 good enough?) I'm sure I'm not the first here to be ready to carry a TI before I have one. --dimes, NJ |

I know this is an older posting now but for what it is worth I car topped a 2016 TI from St. Pete FL, to Ft. Meyers FL, and then to Burlington VT. All in all It was on the car 7 days. I had a thule system. 2 bars on the cab, and the goalpost system on the trailer hitch. Worked fine. I ran PVC tubes to help support it. However I wouldn't do this regularly as the whole setup is very user unfriendly. I trailer now. |
