The one with the 30cm RollEze wheels (http://www.austinkayak.com/products/130 ... Agu28P8HAQ) When you pull an AI off of the SUT-450/Hobie Cradles, is there enough room between the bottom of the hull and the ground to insert the beach dolly without having to lift the hull? |

There is sufficient room to attach/detach the scupper cart if the trailer is assembled with the axle beneath the leaf springs. I am not sure if there is room if the axle is installed between the leaf springs and frame as per the instructions as I found the trailer has too little ground clearance for my needs in that configuration. This is from my experience with an Oasis but shouldn't be any different for an AI. Do note that a high or low hitch ball on the tow vehicle will affect clearance. Peter |

Sort-of-Related: I was thinking about putting larger wheels on it, so I called Trailex.Funny thing: they said that bigger wheels would cause bearing failures and strongly advised against them. I believe them.... but it does not compute for me..... Anybody got an explanation? ..... I would have thought opposite: that larger wheels/fewer rotations per mile would be easier on the bearings. |

For legal reasons most manufacturers will discourage any and all modifications to their products to prevent any liability for changes neither designed nor tested by them or improperly installed. But there are plenty of folks on this forum and others who have increased the wheel and tire diameter of their Trailex trailers, accepted the risk of doing so, and the sun rose the following morning. When my tires need replaced I will be joining this group. I would be very surprised if these exact wheel bearings aren't used on heavier trailers with larger tires. Last time I bought trailer wheel bearings there were not that many options available... Peter |

With just the main hull, I can insert the wheels while standing over the boat. ..... With the amas in the way, I lay on the ground and slip the dolly into the scupper holes from there. The whole process of getting the boat on and off the trailer is soooooo much easier/convnient than with the much-higher Yakima Rack-and-Roll trailer. There's no getting around it that the Yak is a seriously-cool trailer - and the larger wheels roll much easier on my lawn, but the Trailex is hands-down more appropriate for this application. |
