Anyone using a Nautic Kayak Lifter to load their Islands? Do you load it fully assembled? How does it perform overall?

I have the rhino rack one and a car just like the one in the photo, so it has to lift the boat up over 2 metres. The winch mechanism copes with the weight fully loaded easily. I use an 18v cordless drill. The adjustable side loading posts however look to be at the limit and I broke the rivets on one of them under load. I think the whole thing is only rated up to 80kgs... The centre Hull gets deformed on the 2 bars just as it it’s about to come onto the roof but it’s only for a couple of seconds. I do like being able to control the speed of getting it off the roof. I only ever loaded it with amas all connected, so fully loaded excluding seats. In the end I bought a trailer as I found trying to tie it down on the roof to be a pain in the proverbial. You can also get a few scratches and scrapes on the Hull if loading from bitumen.as it drags the Hull along the ground. |

I use a “BoatHoist” same principle as the one above but all aluminum - no plastic parts. Mine was designed for a tinny but they now make one for kayaks. I use a trailer most of the time and only have the BoatHoist for when we tow the caravan. |

I should have added you will need a full charge on your cordless drill to power the supplied winch. I use an 18v (I think it has a 2Ah battery), and I only get ~2 offloads and loads on the 1 charge. |
