Post subject:  Length of Hobie Tandem Island on Hobie Trailex Trailer

Hello Hobie Islanders,
I am looking at purchasing a Hobie Tandem Island. I want to store it in my garage on the Trailex trailer.

1] What is the overall length of trailer and boat from the tip of the trailer's tongue to the stern of the Hobie.
2] How easy is it to remove/reattach the bow stop if we need to move the Hobie forward to reduce length for storage?

I have a TI on a Trailex "350" trailer with 3 cradles. I too wanted the shortest length possible.

The boat will be longer than the trailer so the determining factor in OAL is how far forward you position the boat on the trailer. The more forward, the lower the overall length.

My bow is positioned only 8" from very tip of the trailer tongue (the winch is directly over the tongue). My OAL with the rudder mounted is 19' 10". It can be reduced to 19' 0" by pulling the rudder pin and placing the rudder on top of the hull. I think removing the bow stop all the time would be a pain.

I have thousands of miles on the Trailex (with the standard 8" wheels) and it has performed flawlessly. I made a lot of simple mods to make launching and retrieving easier and faster.

I store my TI in my garage on a trailer on an angle. Just fits. I also use a swing away tongue on the front of the trailer which helps a lot. I use an aluminum utility trailer (Sport Haven 5 X 10 foot flatbed) that I have modified to accept my TI and assorted gear. I take my TI on long 1000+ mile trips and thus need a more robust trailer set up compared to the Trailex trailer. Works great!
