When I was cleaning my 2015 AI I noticed rust on the two roll pins that the rudder up down lines are attached to. It brought back a bad memory of having to drill a non stainless roll pin on my 2011 PA. Put a magnet to the pin and of course it stuck. Don't understand why a cheap Crome plated pin is installed on the rudder that is always in the water. Is this intentional or is it something that got by Q A Q C again. It's would seem that if the suppliers are sending the wrong parts or are mixing them something as simple as the magnetic bowls that mechanics use would prevent this. If the parts stick they don't get put on the boat. Went to the dealer and he only had one stainless roll pin in stock and about 10 plated ones. Please get back to me on this Matt. |

Certainly a supplier issue if that is the case, but have not heard of the issue, but remember stainless is just that... "It stains less", so if some rust is on the surface it does not mean that the materiel is not stainless. Tools used to flair pins can leave a small amount of carbon that can rust. It also may have carbon machining debris, salt / metallic dust collected on the surface, slightly higher carbon content. I highly doubt that a dealer has ordered (or has in stock) a roll pin from us for this use. |

I have no reference number for either pin. Never seen either type replaced. We are heading to a World Dealer Meeting today, so will check further later in the week when I can ask engineers. |

When the magnet stuck to the pins I knew they were plated not stainless. Magnets don't stick to most stainless something that you should pass on to your QAQC department. I don't want to have to deal with a rusty mess like I had to on my PA. How can I get replacements ? |

I'll have to find the specification. As I said... I have never seen a pin in need of replacement. I also noted that the dealer could not have our pins... no idea what you tested with a magnet. |

300 series stainless is magnetic when cold worked to a tempered condition. If this is a "roll" or "split" pin it is probably tempered, cold worked product that will have some magnetism. Fully annealed (soft temper) 300 series stainless is not magnetic but if it was annealed it would not work as a spring. |
