Post subject: | Replacing tiller handle on TI |
Hello, The black plastic underneath the tiller handle in the rear cockpit broke on my TI. I guess I was steering too hard. So when I push the handle one way or the other, the handle just bends and doesn't rotate the control, as the only thing moving is the gray rubber over the hard black plastic. I can still steer by just turning at the pivot point. I want to replace the handle with the one in the front cockpit, but I heard you can't just unscrew the thing or the assembly will fall into the hull. Is this true? How do you replace handles. Thanks, TC |

If that is the case... reach into the hull and support the handle rod while making the change. |

I changed the handle on an AI without having the steering assembly try to drop out. |

It has been ways back, but on the older boats (pre-2011?) the handle was spring loaded on the inside. It would drop out when the handle was taken off. It was then necessary to brace it up some way--bricks, pavers, whatever. Keith |

FYI - On my 2014 TI, I have taken the handles off without the assembly dropping out. |

Same on my 2015. I actually had a handle work loose on the water and come off in my hand. I was able to screw it back on with a multitool and the underneath bits didn't go anywhere. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk |
