It's as simple as getting new fin masts from your dealer. Don't be embarrassed or discouraged, we've all bent fin masts. Sometimes if it's just a slight bend you can just bend it back. (It will be a little weaker and eventually fail, so good to have some spares on hand) Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk |

To straighten masts, remove fins, slip length of strong pipe over end. I have a length of galv water pipe for this. Face drive down so pedals flat on ground, put weight on pedals, lever masts back, this stops you bending elsewhere and keeps rebend in same plane. They invariably bend straight back not sideways. If you remove mast to straighten it ends up bent sideways etc resulting in constant correction. If you measure distance between mast tip to mast tip and compare to base to base you will be able to tell if there are any minor bends or not. Slight bends are not always obvious. As mentioned though too much rebending weakens them eventually. But no need to go replacing them each time you bend them a little. Its a tandem so not the end of the world if you snap one mast on the water |

If you happened to know someone who has a decent hydraulic press or just about any machine shop in the world, they're fairly easy to straighten that way. I happened to have one from Harbor Freight and it worked beautifully. All that's needed is a little patience. As a side note ref Mirage Drive repairs: I recently broke one of the foot straps on one of my drives and I started looking around for replacements. Prices seem to be fixed everywhere on the internet at $6.99 PLUS shipping (which nearly doubles the price for one strap). I ended up buying a PAIR of straps on Amazon that are actually made for exercise bikes (link below). $8 for a pair of TWO and FREE SHIPPING (if you have Amazon Prime). Until i figured out that the centerboard coming up is a good depth finder I used to bend masts often in the shallows of Tampa Bay. So I made an unbender. Took a piece of 2 foot long aluminum bar about 1 inch diameter and drill a hole in the side at one end the same as the mast diameter. Just enough leverage to undo what was done. |
