I upgraded to TI from an inflatable. On that inflatable, I had a small sail with telltails that were old and coming apart. The telltails on my new TI were coming apart after several outings. When they do, they stop functioning since when the fine nylon fibers that are coming loose get wet, they sticks to the sail, and stop flapping in the wind. I tried to burn the sides to contain the fine nylon fibers, but I made it worse. It's too fine of a material and I damaged one side, and melted the other. I tried looking online to see if I can buy a set, and couldn't come up with anything. Hobie, There must be a way to stop this from happening right? On the last trip, I had no way to know my sail is trimmed. Anybody have any idea how to obtain a pair that doesn't come apart? ![]() ![]() |

Your TellTails look a bit warn. When mine get like that I replace them with either Black Beauty telltales or Air-Flow Tels #334 (red & green). The Black Beauty's seem better quality then I received on any of my Hobie sails and usually last over a year of active sailing. Enough in the package for years of replacements for probably less than $10 most places. |

Amazon carries Air Flow Tale Tails. Multiples are always sold because tail tells always need replacing every year or so. |

Yarn works well. Old style cassette tape works well. slits of spinnaker cloth work well or pieces of old kites or any light fabric cut into slits... Attach to sail with tape of some sort. If you sail often, you will probably have to change them yearly-maybe even twice in a single year. OK, yah, you can buy premade stuff...I'm cheap. |
