How do you reconnect the T&S rudder handle?

Post subject:  How do you reconnect the T&S rudder handle?
On Sunday, I was lowering the T&S rudder when the handle came off in my hand. The set screw had worked loose. When that happened, the control arm and spring inside the hull dropped away from the hole they go through to attach to the rudder handle. How do I go about reconnecting the rudder handle to the control arm? Is there an easy way to do this?

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you crawl inside the kayak and push it back thru the hole, J/K
We replace handles here in the shop with 2 people, one person has to get there arm back in there and hold the control arm out so you can get that handle back on and the set screw in the notch and tighten it down. On the island we use the center hatch to reach the up/down handle.

If your boat is an Adventure Island, get the free upgraded handle and inside parts so it won't happen again.

As per the tech bulletin:

Image Up/Down rudder handle - The weight and mass of the larger rudder has caused some rudder control handles to fail. This appears to have been primarily a materials issue with the original handles, but we have taken the issue more seriously and wanted to prevent any similar failures from occurring. Shortly after initial production started, we switched to a through-bolted handle that can absorb many times the expected loads. Some technique is still required to easily raise and lower (see tech notes below). Older handles have a brass insert and set screw. Newer handles have a allen bolt threaded clear through the control arm and into the opposite side of the handle. This update kit includes a new handle, bolt and control arm. This requires re-fitting the control arm and control lines inside the hull. Kit# 81035011
