Post subject: | Location of 4 flotation pieces inside Tandem Island Hull? |
I have a 2020 Tandem Island delivered in March of this year. I have 4 long, narrow, hard foam type flotation pieces inside the Hull. My question is what is the proper location of the 4 pieces? Right now I have one on the starboard side under the front seat area, one on the starboard side under the back seat area, TWO on the port side under the back seat area, and NONE on the port side under the front seat area. I am assuming the extra piece under the port side back seat should be moved forward so it is under the port side front seat? I have tried to move it but it is jammed in there pretty good and I didn't want to force it with all the lines and stuff running down there. |

The foam is primarily for safety/flotation if the hull was swamped. It is required by the NMMA for certification and required by marine laws in Europe. All Hobie sailboats have had this in their hulls for our entire history. Kayaks got foam maybe 15 years or so ago. There are no structural reasons for it in the Tandem Island. It can be moved around if you want. |
