I have no idea why, but my 2013 TI rudder steering lines get twisted about every 3-4 months to the point where steering becomes very difficult, if not impossible (I sail a lot). Is there any resource that can show me a) how to keep that from happening, and 2) how to fix it when it inevitably happens again? Thanks in advance. |

Can't explain why but I can tell you where to look and what usually fixes it. Go into the rearmost porthole and feel the rudder lines where they go thru a bungeed block(pulley). For some reason the block twists and the lines wrap around each other. I fixed it by using a strap to hold the rudder up when trailering and releasing all the rudder up controls. It seems to work. Sometimes a rapid up/down action of the controls will do it too. Happy sailing! |

If the twist you are referring to is the cable pulley, then the fix is surprisingly easy. Reach into the hull and twist the pully by hand. The key is to allow the handle for lifting the rudder to rotate outside the hull while you're doing this. If it seems to be getting worse, twist in the other direction. It takes about two minutes.
