Is there a way to raise the rear mainsail pulley system? When sailing downwind with a reefed sail the line is at neck level which is very difficult to deal with in our constantly changing mountain winds. Is there a way or product to raise the rear pulley system on a tandem Island?

Google "hobie island mainsheet riser" and you'll find several forum links and videos with DIY solutions to raising the mainsheet on an Island or Tandem Island. Of course, elevating the attachment point will affect sailing dynamics.

Most of these solutions are quite hideous looking. One of the more asthetic ones is this creative repurpose of a Hobie H-Bar in the third post:

Most of the ideas presented will certainly raise the main sheet for the sailor in the back seat....but at a costs.

Raising the main sheet also distorts the sail shape with an impact on sailing performance.....

I prefer to live with the standard main sheet setup and the improved sailing performance. For the long distance sailing that I do..... it makes a difference.

If sailing solo, you can always sail from the forward seat which should help with the main sheet clearance.

Note: I sail from the back seat single handed 90% of the time. I am 5'7".....so not as big an issue for me.
